Donning new jerseys, the Winterboro Bulldogs defeated Alabama School for the Deaf 61- 46 Thursday night.
With the score tied at 21 at halftime, the Bulldogs outscored the Silent Warriors 21- 16 in the third quarter and 198 in the fourth to pull away.
Josh Taylor had 21 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Curtavious Grey had 12 points and five rebounds and Nick Leonard was six- for- six from the free throw line.
Winterboro improved to 2- 4 overall and 2- 0 in the area. ASD dropped to 6- 3, 1- 2.
Anthony JonesRobinson had 19 points for ASD. Kadarius Slaughter added 16 and Demetric Snider had six steals.
“It was key win on the road, we knew coming in it was going to be a crucial game,” said Winterboro head coach Sherroderick Smith. “Being 2- 0 in area is a good feeling, but we have room for improvement.”
TC Central’s boys basketball team defeated Wadley 78- 42 Thursday.
Tevin Garrett had 17 points eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in the win.
Kenderious Swain had 13 points, while Crystyle Stockdale had 10 points. Damien Staples added nine points and Tyree Garrett had seven.
The Winterboro girls basketball team defeated ASD 43- 31 Thursday.
Jasmine Richardson scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Tenesha Merritt had 10 points and six steals. Kenisha Jones had 13 points for ASD.
Winterboro improved to 7- 2 overall and 2- 0 in the area.
“We played a little slow, it was a low scoring affair,” Smith said. “I’m glad the girls got an area win on the road. It’s big. Now we have to get ready for a heck of a game tomorrow against Spring Garden. We want to show we can compete with some of the best — we haven’t been stepping up to the plate against previously ranked teams.”
